Cockatiel cage size

Choosing the right cage size for your cockatiel is essential for their health and happiness. Cockatiels are active birds that need plenty of space to move around, stretch their wings, and play. A good rule of thumb is to provide a cage that is at least 24 inches wide, 24 inches deep, and 30 inches high. However, bigger is always better, as it allows your bird to fly short distances and stay more active. A spacious cage also gives you the flexibility to add perches, toys, and feeding stations without crowding your bird’s living space.

In addition to size, the bar spacing of the cage is important. The ideal spacing should be between 0.5 to 0.75 inches to prevent your cockatiel from getting stuck or escaping. A cage with horizontal bars on at least two sides is also helpful for climbing, which cockatiels enjoy. Make sure the cage is placed in a safe, well-lit area, away from drafts, and with a view of household activity to keep your bird engaged. Providing daily out-of-cage time is also important for their mental and physical well-being.
