When selecting a cage for your guinea pig, size and design are crucial for ensuring their comfort and well-being. Guinea pigs need plenty of space to move around, exercise, and explore. Avoid cages with wire floors, as they can hurt your guinea pig’s feet. Instead, choose a cage with a solid bottom and provide ample bedding for comfort.
Additionally, the cage should be well-ventilated and easy to clean. Look for cages with wide openings to make daily cleaning and feeding easier. Many owners opt for C&C cages (cubes and coroplast), which are customizable and offer excellent ventilation and visibility. Ensure the cage is equipped with hiding spots, tunnels, and chew toys to keep your guinea pigs mentally stimulated. Always place the cage in a quiet, draft-free area of your home, away from direct sunlight, to keep your pets safe and comfortable.
