Safe Fish Moving Guide

Moving fish to a new home or location requires thoughtful preparation. First, select a proper transport container that minimizes movement and maintains water quality. Fill the container with water from the aquarium to avoid any sudden changes in water chemistry. For short trips, plastic fish bags are often ideal, but for longer journeys, a sealed plastic container may be better suited.

Temperature control is critical—use heat or ice packs if necessary to maintain a stable water temperature. Keep the transport container secure and minimize exposure to light and noise, as fish are highly sensitive to environmental changes. Once you reach your destination, take the time to reacclimate your fish by floating the transport container in the new tank and gradually mixing the water before releasing them.
